Posing the Question

I am sure this question has been asked a lot but I still want to know.

Why do you blog? Are you an amateur writer trying to gauge your material? Did you create a blog because everyone else was doing it? Were you just bored one day? Do you still have no idea what you are doing?

I blog because it is a way for me to express myself in a way that I can't do in the real world. My blog humor is different than my real life humor. What I write in my posts only works in my posts. I like knowing that people that I don't know find me funny.

So what is your reason?

So you enjoy amusing strangers?
I started blogging because my publisher told me to get my butt online and build a platform. I'm still blogging because of the friendships I've made. I still don't know what I'm doing, but I'm having fun doing it.

Blogging serves as an outlet for my satire and sardonic wit...but I do it mainly to expand my political influence with the youth of today. I wish to have some effect that may save some of our nation's freedoms for my children and grandchildren.

I was bored one day. I continue to do it because of the friends I've met and because it's fun. I enjoy it because it helps me look for funny things in my days.

One day I found I had something to say, and I wanted people to hear it. So I started a blog. Back then oddly no one listened to what I have to say. Now they do, I don't care to repeat myself.

I write, but my blog isn't to practice, so much as to talk ABOUT it... make connections with other writers so I don't feel so alone in it... to feel a part of something bigger--help others, hoping they will also help me...

Alex put his finger right on it (which isn't as creepy as it may sound): I enjoy amusing strangers. At least I hope I amuse them. Especially because Mrs. Penwasser has had "quite enough" of what I find funny. I suppose, after 26 years, the fresh whimsy of "pull my finger" has degraded to an extent. Sadly, I'd like to say that my "blogging" sense of humor is different from my "real world" sense of humor. But, as anyone who knows me or has the misfortune to be my Twitter or Facebook friend, that isn't the case.

I started blogging to have something other than anonymous as a signature to my comments to a couple of friends that blogged.

I'll go with Bored and Nothing Else to Do for $200, Johnny. Sorry about your split humor personality...I am as hilarious in real life as I am on line...ha ha ha1

We started it as a way to whore out our writing, but as we started to find out that we were kinda good at it (and people were enjoying what we posted) we've come to embrace our lives as D-list Internet Celebrity Funnymen. I wonder if I can get that title printed on a business card.

I started blogging because I wanted to chronicle the crazy stuff that has happened in my life. Since then, it's changed into something else. Now it's kind of a dumping ground for just about anything. Mostly photos though... I still have a ton of written posts piling up in draft form though... I really do need to get some of it posted! I didn't know I'd spend so much time commenting on other blogs. I truly do like (on a personal level), many of the people that I follow. that was a surprise to me.
