Awesome words

Once in awhile I will come across a word that I never use in my every day life. Here are some awesome words that we should try to fit into our everyday conversations.

Diabolical - Only seems to describe an evil villain in a cheesy movie or cartoon.

Vanquished - Something Batman might say in the old tv show.

Abominable - I only know the Snowman. I had to look up the definition because I never knew what it meant.

Shan't - It is a contraction of shall and not. People look at me weird when I try to slip it into a sentence.

Phantasmagorical - Something a extremely gay man might use to describe a Broadway play.

Swum - I have looked it up but still don't know when to properly use it.

Juxtaposition - Amazing word to use in scrabble.

Cuckold - Sounds dirty.

Hornswoggle - You don't want to know what I'm thinking.

Rapscallion - I always think of pirates.

Scalawag - Again, pirates.

Livery - I always see it on the license plate of a taxicab. I never know how to pronounce it.

Can you think of any words that tickle your fancy?

Good ones! They definitely use swum around here and I'm pretty sure incorrectly.
Disestablishmentarianism. That one always tickles me.
And guacamole. Sounds like clothing. She wore her green guacamole...

I've probably used "juxtaposition" more than any of these words, but I usually only use it in writing. Since junior high I've always been drawn to the word "cynosure" but very rarely in my life have a found the occasion to use it.

I also like the sound of the word "inexplicable" but inexplicably I never use that word.

Discombobulated. Because I frequently find myself in that particular state.

Oh yeah. I'm a word freak, so there are lots of words that float my fancy. Like bamboozle, discombobulate, and floozy.

I actually use the top 4 or 5 words on a regular basis which puts my geek 'O meter way, way up. I love the word Bombastic and spelunking

Penultimate. I love that one. I get the weirdest looks when I use it. But so much easier than second-to-last.

Non sequitur. It took me a while to figure out how to pronounce it. (non sekwitur) I use this one in class all the time. I'm giving instructions. Random student stands up and asks the whole class who likes Kool-Aid. (True story). I reply, "King of the non sequitur."

Deosil. I never get to use this one, but it's much more fun than clockwise.

Iffy. I've had kiddos question if it's a word. That, and ick. Why no one believes ick is a word...

It is, not just sounds.

Can't say I'd ever slip Phantasmagorical into anything lol but scalawag I've used before. Dink I use, not big, but I've had someone question me if I was being PC and avoiding the c. Pffft. Dinkus is one to use too.

Swum? As the Queen of Grammar, I have to check on that one. I swim; I swam; I have swum? Okay. I checked. It is "have swum." I like a lot of words: a current favorite is perseverative. I'm also fond of pedantic, lethargy, and bedtime. I used cuckold a lot when I wrote essays in college because Shakespeare and some other writers from long ago always have some poor guy who is being cuckolded. Then there's cuckqueen. Dreck. Bamboozle. I'll stop now because if I don't, this comment will be longer than your post. Did I mention that I really like words?

Love,
