Ape-tastic

I just watched Rise of the Planet of the Apes and I thought it was fantastic. I have to admit that before viewing this flick I was a Planet of the Apes virgin. I know, I am as shocked as you are. Now I have to go back and watch the original and the sequels from the 70's. I heard the 2001 remake sucked so I won't get my hopes up when I eventually watch that one.

In my opinion you really can't go wrong with prequels. There is always a story to tell and Hollywood many routes to go. Unfortunately sequels are harder to live up to because it is tough to top the original. I'm excited about The Wizard of Oz prequel that comes out next year. It tell the story of The Great Oz.

I have a great idea that I have mentioned in the past that someone should come up with a series of at least a trilogy and start at the end and work back to the beginning. Star Wars kind of did that but not entirely. Each movie would leave you wanting to know how you got to that point. They would be prequels to prequels. Someone will eventually have to run with this idea, Hollywood is running out of ideas. Remakes, prequels and sequels seem to be mainstream nowadays.

What do you think Hollywood should do? Do you have any film ideas?

When you watch those other Apes movies, you'll realize just how great Rise was.
Perhaps three movies done in reverse and in the style of Memento? That would really mess with heads.

I don't mind sequels and prequels, but I do want them to make sense. I do want them to be wanted. I don't want random sequels and prequels to really old movies.

You have to see good Ole Charlton yell "Take your hands off me...You dirty Ape!" You would almost think he was talking to John Travolta! Ooops-I might get people hating me for that sick joke. I agree with Alex-Memento comes to mind and is great. You have to watch the TV series too (about the apes I mean). I remember watching them when they were on TV!I saw all the movies except for the one last year. I think I would cringe if they made a prequel to Casablanca-knowing Hollywaood as they are now they would have kristen Stewart(you know miss congeniality with the smile, or lack there one) and some beef cake abs guy with crap for brains to play in the Bogart role. I wonder if they would ever do a movie pre Matrix-like when our world was taken over by those machine/beings...hmmm maybe I would be able to make sense of that movie then:)

I didn't see the latest Ape movie. I will at some point.
I don't mind sequels or prequels, or anything else as long as it's good. You know a sequel with an entirely different cast of characters, is probably going to suck.
I'm not sure if there will ever be a sequel like Godfather 2. In MHO, it was better then the first one. If that's possible, because it was also fantastic.

Since I was born LONG before you, I have seen the originals. It's amazing that what we thought was SO fantastic "in the day" will end up being surpassed with the current technology and visual effects. However, if something was really good the first time (story-wise), you generally can't improve on that.

Rise was a great movie. I watched back in January while flying to Ohio. Even on the iPad it was good! I remember the original Apes movie and thought it was pretty good as well.

You're not a virgin anymore?

I think Hollywood should just hire us creative minded bloggers to run the place.

If only we could ask Jupiter Jones. I always enjoyed the super sleuths chats with Alfred Hitchcock whose plan was simple. Always make the audience suffer as much as possible.
